My Fine Art

One thing I’ve loved doing over the years is creating fine art with my photography. I’ve been featured in some art showings and sold a few pieces and yet most people have never seen this side of my work.

Below are three pieces I’ve done, printed on canvas and framed. These are all made up of photos I’ve taken, then brought into Photoshop and tweaked.

“Days are Golden” (named after a Sunny Day Real Estate song) The photos were all taken in Atlanta and the piece has no deep meaning other than I created it after a really fun trip to ATL. I wanted to permanently capture the memories and good feelings of that beautiful day.

The two pieces below I created after visiting Thailand to shoot photos and video for IJM (International Justice Mission.)

“Chiang Mai One” & “Chiang Mai Two”

Chiang Mai is the largest and most culturally significant city in Northern Thailand. I went to Thailand in 2005 with IJM (International Justice Mission) to document some of the work they do there. On one of my last days there I spent four hours walking around Chiang Mai alone, taking photos and observing the culture close up.

Like all of Thailand, Chiang Mai is rich in history and beauty. The people are amazing and very friendly. There is of course a dark side to the beauty and anyone familiar with the work of IJM knows what that is. I tried my best to capture both the beauty and the hidden darkness of Thailand in these pieces.

  1. Love these David- do you still sell them?

  2. Michael Cardwell says:

Wow, these are really cool. I’m sure they look amazing on canvas hanging on the wall.

  3. David Bean says:

Taylor, I do sell them but I don’t actively pursue it. Most of the ones like these are 36″ x 36″ on canvas.

  4. KC says:

Very Creative - is each one more than one photo? or one photo with lots of Photoshop tweaks?
