Private Workshops/Mentoring Sessions

Monday, January 4th, 2010

The Light and Commerce workshops I’ve been doing have been a huge hit and the feedback has been tremendous. There aren’t any more Light & Commerce workshops scheduled for this year so far and I’m honestly not sure when those will get rolling again.

What I am doing this year is offering private one-on-one workshop/mentoring sessions custom tailored to meet the needs of individual people. I have already begun booking private sessions for individuals.

There are three different programs I am offering.

The first is Private Workshops. These are 4-6 hour, one-on-one classes where I create a custom curriculum for each person based on where they are at and where they want to be headed in their careers. Any topic of photography is free to be covered including: business, lighting, creativity, style, etc. These can be done at my studio in Nashville or in your own city at your own location. Obviously the costs are less to do them here in Nashville.

The price of these varies depending on skill level, location or if more time needs to be allotted to meet the needs of the participant.

The second is 30 or 60 minute phone consultations. These are straightforward conversations where again, you are free to ask anything pertaining to photography. These calls are $75 for 30 minutes and $125 for 60 minutes.

And the third option is a 2 day mentoring program. This is 2 full days of one-one-one private instruction, teaching and mentoring in all phases of your career. We will cover everything from branding your company, marketing, estimating and invoicing, lighting techniques, running a business, pre-production, post production, etc.

If you are interested in any of the above, use the contact page to send me an email or a phone call.

I am very excited to be offering this type of hands-on, one-one-one type of instruction and look forward to helping those who are struggling to take either the first or next step in their careers.

Q&A Fridays

qa_fridays

I get many emails every week from people who ask all sorts of questions pertaining to the how’s and why’s of photography and the photo business. So next Friday, November 6 I will feature a weekly post called Q&A Fridays.

How it works is; people email their photography-related questions to Kelli and we will go through and pick a few each week to answer right here on this blog.

By default we will keep your identity a secret unless you instruct us otherwise. You can also post your questions below in the comments section.

Feel free to ask anything technical, creative or business related. I have no secrets and will do my best to answer them in an honest, straightforward way.

Location Scouting without leaving home

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

I was reading an article in the latest Surfing Magazine about a contest that’s held where people use Google Earth to find the best undiscovered places on earth to surf. This led to me thinking about how amazing Google Earth would be to scout locations for photo shoots.

So I uploaded a quick video of how to use Google Earth in such a way. If anyone has any further suggestions or knows of other features that would be helpful, please post them in the comments.

Go Behind the Shoot

Go Behind the Shoot web site coming soon!

In the next 2-3 months I will be launching a web site that is unlike anything done before. Currently there are blogs and web sites around the web who cater to photographers, wannabe photographers and anyone who has any interest in taking photos. In the last few years digital photography has made millions of people wannabe photographers. There are many sites popping up to give tips on shooting, some even showing some video. These sites are all very sterile and strictly educational.

Go Behind the Shoot is different in many, many regards.

The site will feature behind the scenes video of celebrity & musician photo shoots. I will be talking about the lighting, give some photo tips & instructional lessons in between set-ups.

BUT then we also interview the artist; talk about their new record, touring info and anything else they have going on or coming up.

I will then put it all the site with a separate page for each person with a bio, links to their site, MySpace, Virb, etc. There will also be a downloadable songs available for free or purchase.

Everyone is so voyeuristic these days, people want to see the “behind the scenes” of everything. GBTS takes this concept a few steps further to be a fun and educational web site that I think everyone will enjoy.

Advertising and sponsorship opportunities are available. Contact me for more details.
